Your choice of a 60 minute or 90 minute presentation covering the history of the Broadway musical given by Broadway actor, Jamie Jackson, (5 Broadway shows including Sweeney Todd with Josh Groban, The Last Ship with Sting, and Wicked) accompanied by off-Broadway composer (I Spy a Spy), SoHee Youn.
Broadway musicals are a multi-million dollar, international form of entertainment that have been enjoyed on every continent (except Antarctica!) for nearly a hundred years. But how many know the history of this uniquely American art form?
Jamie Jackson and SoHee Youn introduce audiences to the production that marked the birth of true musical theatre, Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern’s Showboat.
They then explore the Golden Age of musicals with shows like Oklahoma, My Fair Lady and West Side Story, on through the edgier work of Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd, Company.
They move into the rock musicals of the 70’s like Jesus Christ Superstar, and Hair then the British megamusicals like Cats and Les Miserables, ending with the most current hits on Broadway, Wicked, Lion King and Hamilton.
Jackson and Youn don’t just present academic lectures, however. We perform songs from the most famous shows to give audiences an understanding of how writers and composers moved the art form forward.
Audiences walk away not just with greater insight into this favorite American art form, but also having been entertained by Broadway quality performers. We even encourage sing-alongs with the most well-known songs.
Jackson and Youn provide educational presentations at their entertaining best.
